Sirik: Fighting between the United States and Iran has intensified again for the first time in weeks. The U.S. launched an airstrike that killed five people at a wedding, while Iran retaliated by attacking military bases in Jordan and Iraq. Iranians have released images from the wedding site that was hit by an airstrike in the city of Sirik, a coastal area on the Strait of Hormuz in the south. Reports from the Red Crescent and local Iranian media indicate that five people were killed, including a four-year-old child, and more than 60 were injured at the wedding, which was struck by shrapnel from the explosion.
According to Thai News Agency, the U.S. Central Command announced that it had carried out airstrikes in retaliation for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempting to attack cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC stated that the United States would regret this attack and subsequently fired several missiles at a US military base in Aqba, Jordan. However, the Jordanian military reported intercepting 13 missiles, destroying 10 and leaving 3 in remote areas. There were no fatalities or injuries. Additionally, there are reports that Iran has also attacked Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
This round of fighting represents the most serious escalation of conflict in weeks, following US forces attacking two missile launch sites on Larag Island in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran retaliating with missile strikes on an air base in Jordan and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates, causing global oil prices to rise again.
