Bangkok: Mr. Napinthorn Srisanpang, the Deputy Minister of Commerce, has firmly declared his confidence in his innocence regarding the collusion allegations involving the Senate. He has vowed to clarify all issues if summoned by the Election Commission (EC). Mr. Napinthorn has requested the public to perceive this as an individual matter rather than a legal battle between political factions.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Napinthorn addressed the media upon his arrival at Government House, stating he had not yet received any official summons from the EC. He noted that he learned about the potential summons through news reports and emphasized that neither his residence in Ratchaburi Province nor any known location had received such a notice. He assured that he is ready to respond and explain the facts if a summons is issued.
When questioned about his involvement in the alleged collusion process during the selection of senators, Mr. Napinthorn expressed confidence in his non-involvement. He reiterated his readiness to meet the EC and present his explanations, believing that all issues could be clarified transparently.
Mr. Napinthorn also addressed the possibility of his connections in local politics, particularly in Ratchaburi Province, being the reason for the allegations. He acknowledged his political activities in the province and his acquaintances with several individuals but maintained confidence in his ability to clarify the situation. He cited adherence to a pre-election warning from the Bhumjaithai Party leader to avoid such involvement.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Mr. Napinthorn has not engaged in discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul or other party leaders concerning the matter. He confirmed a conversation with Mr. Chaichana Chidchob, Secretary-General of the Bhumjaithai Party, who urged him to clarify the facts.
He dismissed notions of the situation being a political conflict between factions, emphasizing the harmonious collaboration between the Bhumjaithai Party and the Pheu Thai Party. Furthermore, Mr. Napinthorn assured that the allegations would not impede his official responsibilities or coordination with other agencies and coalition parties.
Mr. Napinthorn denied having assessed whether his summons was due to implications by previously summoned senators. He maintained his confidence in explaining the facts should charges be acknowledged. He also assured that any financial trails or phone conversations unrelated to the collusion process could be clarified.
As for the timeline of his appearance before the Election Commission, Mr. Napinthorn stated that he awaits an official summons. He affirmed his willingness to prioritize the clarification process, adjusting his schedule to accommodate the EC’s request whenever it arrives.
