Narcotics Suppression Bureau Commander Confirms Ongoing Investigation Against Parliamentary Candidate

Bangkok: The Narcotics Suppression Bureau commander has confirmed that the investigation into the cases against a parliamentary candidate remains active, as the prosecutor has only ordered the dismissal of certain charges.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Achayon Kraithong, Commander of the Narcotics Suppression Police, addressed rumors circulating on social media about the prosecutor's decision not to indict a former parliamentary candidate following his arrest during the recent election. The investigation, conducted by the Narcotics Suppression Division 2 under the Narcotics Suppression Police Command, stemmed from a significant drug trafficking case. The investigation uncovered financial connections to the suspects, leading to the dismantling of the network through searches, arrests, and the seizure of numerous assets. Evidence was gathered, and 11 suspects were prosecuted with recommendations for indictment on money laundering charges, which included transferring or receiving crime-related assets to conceal their origin or assist others before, during, or after the crime.

The case file, along with investigative opinions, was submitted to the public prosecutor in March 2026. The public prosecutor subsequently ordered the dismissal of some cases and forwarded the file to the National Police Chief for review under Section 145/1 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The National Police Chief is now formulating an opinion to challenge the public prosecutor's decision to dismiss the cases, with the case file and dissenting opinions to be sent to the Attorney General. Meanwhile, the public prosecutor continues to proceed with indictments on other offenses. Authorities maintain that the investigation and its expansion were conducted in a straightforward manner.
