NBTC Board Meeting Collapses Again Amid Authority Dispute

Bangkok: The NBTC board meeting faced another collapse as Dr. Soran Boonbaichaiyapruk insisted on his authority to chair the board, leading to a walkout by three commissioners. According to Thai News Agency, the Secretariat of the Cabinet clarified that Dr. Soran's removal has not yet been submitted to the King for approval, indicating that careful deliberation is ongoing.

The meeting of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) was called off after failing to meet quorum requirements. Dr. Soran's presence and his assertion of authority prompted the departure of three commissioners, forcing the cancellation of the proceedings. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for August 6th.

Addressing the rumors about Dr. Soran's removal, Ms. Natthajaree Anantsilp, Secretary-General of the Cabinet, confirmed that the matter has not been forwarded to the Cabinet Secretariat. She emphasized the need for thorough examination and verification of details before any submission to His Majesty the King.

Additionally, the meeting drew interest from consumer organization representatives and members of the digital TV association, who were concerned about the legal implications of Dr. Soran's status on the legitimacy of board resolutions and future meetings.
