Bangkok: The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has announced an urgent meeting scheduled for August 5-6. The meeting aims to address 33 critical matters that have been pending due to the postponement of the previous 22nd meeting on July 27, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Trairat Wiriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of the NBTC, stated that the 23rd meeting of the NBTC Board of Directors for 2026 is essential to fulfill the commission's legal duties. The meeting is set to comply with all legal procedures, and the date has been communicated in advance to ensure transparency and preparedness. Mr. Trairat emphasized the urgency of the agenda items due to existing time constraints.
The 33 items requiring immediate consideration include various issues related to the telecommunications sector. Among these are complaints concerning mobile phone services, television broadcasts, and consumer exploitation, totaling eight agenda items. The meeting will also address the allocation and transfer of phone numbers and the exemption from charges for 4-digit short-term numbers in seven sessions.
Additional items on the agenda include the extension of the license period for satellite orbit access and other rights, covering three terms. Moreover, the meeting will focus on the authorization and revocation of licenses, alongside notifications of changes to television program schedules in five sessions. There are also three sessions dedicated to requesting approval for the prepayment of SMS services.
Lastly, the NBTC will consider requests for the construction of telecommunication conduits and the approval of contracts for the use and interconnection of telecommunication networks, comprising seven agenda items.
