Bangkok: History was made today as Neos Pataraporn Kengrungruangchai, a Bangkok City Councilor for the Bang Sue District representing the People's Party, was elected as the first female President of the Bangkok City Council.
According to Thai News Agency, the election took place at the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting room in Irawat Pattana Building, where the first meeting of the council was convened. The primary agenda was to elect the new President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.
Ms. Pattaraporn Kengrungruangchai secured the presidency with 39 votes, marking her as the 26th President of the council. Her election is a significant milestone, as she is the first woman to hold this position in the council's 53-year history. Her opponent, Mr. Wirach Kongkakhet, representing the Bangkok Yai District from the Democrat Party, received 7 votes.
The election of Ms. Pattaraporn represents a noteworthy achievement for the People's Party and sets a precedent for future leadership roles within the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.
