No Personal Conflict in Phuket Governor’s Transfer, Says Interior Ministry Official

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has clarified that there is no personal conflict related to the recent transfer of the Phuket governor. He emphasized that the decision was not driven by a fear of investigation but was part of a pre-existing process aimed at resolving ongoing issues in the province.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary, detailed the reasons behind transferring Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, the Governor of Phuket Province. He highlighted that the recent developments in Phuket necessitated a change for the government's benefit. The governor's transfer is part of an effort to address problems in line with government policy, particularly regarding the suppression of influential figures and unrest in the area.

Mr. Arsit likened the situation to removing sand from shoes, suggesting that new leadership could bring fresh perspectives to longstanding issues. He denied any personal conflicts, stating that the adjustments were necessary to move forward and effectively resolve the province's problems. He acknowledged complaints about team dynamics, which prompted the decision to bring in a new team to better tackle these challenges.

Mr. Arsit also addressed concerns about the speed of the transfer, clarifying that he was not concerned about potential investigations. Instead, he prioritized resolving the situation by following the Prime Minister's instructions. A committee was already in place to oversee the matter and ensure swift action, particularly in light of daily reports of internal conflicts among deputies affecting problem-solving efforts.

Regarding Mr. Adul Chuthong, Deputy Governor of Phuket, who requested to submit a written explanation involving multiple parties, Mr. Arsit indicated that they are awaiting this explanation before considering whether to establish a fact-finding committee.
