Bangkok: The opposition whip is actively investigating two complaints that have been filed with the Election Commission. These complaints focus on the integrity of the government and the employment contract of the Election Commission's secretary.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, who serves as the Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Opposition Political Parties in the House of Representatives, has received two letters of complaint. The complaints urge iLaw to utilize its authority to scrutinize the government's integrity and request an investigation into budget allocations related to salaries, allowances, and other compensation tied to the Election Commission. This comes after a majority vote by the Election Commission to fail the evaluation of its Secretary-General, raising concerns about the evaluation authority and the employment contract.
Mr. Parit stated that the opposition plans to employ mechanisms both inside and outside of parliament to scrutinize any corruption networks that may be involved. Additionally, they aim to closely monitor the Election Commission's activities to prevent any suppression of these cases. To further this effort, a forum is scheduled to be held at Parliament on Sunday, July 26, 2026. This forum will invite witnesses from both the original and new areas to provide information to the public, thereby expanding the scope of the investigation.
As the House of Representatives prepares to convene at the end of August, the opposition intends to make full use of parliamentary mechanisms, including relevant committees, to investigate the evaluation process of the Election Commission's secretary-general. They plan to propose a request for documentation concerning the secretary-general's employment contract to support their investigation and will utilize the information gathered in a no-confidence debate.
