Nakhon si thammarat: Pak Phanang River Basin is once again facing severe flooding, with stagnant floodwaters awaiting drainage and emitting a strong odor. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor has taken action by deploying water pumps to expedite the process of channeling the water into the canal system.
According to Thai News Agency, despite the overall improvement in the flood situation in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s catchment area, large volumes of water have inundated low-lying zones across several sub-districts in Pak Phanang, Chian Yai, and Chaloem Phra Kiat districts. These areas are now experiencing distress as agricultural lands are submerged, and the water remains trapped, waiting to be drained into the Pak Phanang River. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that nearly all water gates in Khlong Sai Kai are non-functional due to damage and weed overgrowth, causing water to stagnate and produce dark brown, foul-smelling wastewater.
In response, the provincial governor has accelerated efforts to resolve the issue by positioning water pumps at strategic locations along the Cha-uat-Praek Muang canal in Hua Sai district. Additionally, orders have been given to drill at least ten canal embankments, facilitating a quicker discharge of water into the canal.
