Pathum thani: The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has clarified the situation involving a landlord from Khlong Nueng Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, who is contesting charges related to late payments and electricity fees for alleged illegal electricity usage.
According to Thai News Agency, the PEA conducted an investigation which uncovered two separate instances of electricity usage violations at the property in question. The first incident took place on April 5, 2024, when meter tampering was identified, resulting in a fine of 34,500 baht along with a charge of 778 baht for the damaged meter, both of which have been paid. The second violation was discovered on April 27, 2026, involving modifications to the electrical circuit that led to inaccurate meter readings. For this, a fine of 69,000 baht was imposed alongside a charge of 95,376.68 baht for meter repairs, bringing the total to 164,376.68 baht, in line with applicable regulations.
For the latter violation, the PEA lodged a complaint with the investigating officer on June 30, 2026, to initiate legal proceedings. The PEA emphasized that the collection of fines and electricity improvement fees was executed in accordance with the power purchase agreement and PEA regulations on electricity usage violations. Specifically, Article 4 of these regulations mandates the collection of payments from violators, beneficiaries, occupants, or residents, including fines and additional charges for damages resulting from violations.
The PEA Rangsit branch is actively investigating further and gathering more evidence. They are also in discussions with the homeowner to explore solutions, such as applying for a new electricity service under relevant regulations and guidelines, to ensure fairness and justice for all involved parties.
