Bangkok: “Phiphat” denies that the Ministry of Transport has decided to consider charging a 30 baht toll at Kaset Intersection for the Outer Ring Road project. He indicates that a study will take 2-3 years, with a clear announcement expected this December.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, addressed the decision by the Committee on Land Traffic System Management (CLTSM) to reroute the Kaset Intersection-Ngamwongwan Road-Pongphet Bridge tunnel to an expressway to connect the eastern and western networks of Bangkok, with a toll fee of 30 baht for the entire route. He stated that he was unaware of the source of the criticisms, as the meeting minutes did not mention the 30 baht fee. Therefore, it may be a misunderstanding. He added that he would provide further details in a press conference.
When pressed further on reports of a 30 baht toll fee being charged near Kasetsart University, Mr. Pipat stated that there was no factual basis for that. He emphasized that the meeting’s resolution did not mention the 30 baht toll, but rather focused on studying the feasibility of using a shared underpass. He noted that the study is expected to take 2-3 years to complete. If the study concludes that the underpass will cause congestion, alternative routes will be explored. However, he stressed that he would discuss the matter further with the committee before making a public statement.
When asked about the criticism from the public and faculty of Kasetsart University, Mr. Pipat said it was alright and he was ready to provide clarification within December.
