Phuket Airport to Implement Automated Passport Control System

Phuket: Phuket Airport is set to launch an automated passport control system on June 13 to address existing problems and improve efficiency in handling passengers during peak periods. The government announced this initiative to enhance the efficiency of passenger processing and reduce congestion at immigration checkpoints.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, addressed circulating messages on social media regarding passenger congestion at Phuket Airport's immigration checkpoint and allegations of fees for expedited immigration procedures. The government has initiated an investigation to ascertain the facts and resolve these issues urgently, aiming to improve passenger handling efficiency, particularly during peak flight times.

To facilitate tourists and address these concerns, Phuket Airport Immigration is preparing to officially launch its automated passport control system for departing passengers on June 13. This move aims to provide greater convenience, expedite the passport control process, reduce waiting times, and upgrade immigration service efficiency to international standards, thereby accommodating the growing number of passengers and tourists passing through Phuket Airport.

Ms. Ploytalay reiterated that immigration services at Phuket Airport adhere to the procedures and standards of relevant government agencies. She emphasized that there is no policy of charging additional fees for preferential treatment in immigration procedures.
