Bangkok: "Pichet" is set to lead a team consisting of two MPs from the People's Party and members of the media to conduct a thorough inspection of the parliament building. Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced that the inspection aims to address several questionable points related to budget allocations for the parliament's renovation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pichet will be joined by Mr. Panit Wacharasindhu and Mr. Phanthil Nuamchim from the Prachachon Party as they tour the parliament tomorrow. The timing of the inspection will depend on Mr. Panit's availability after his debate on the 2026 budget bill. The primary focus of the tour is to evaluate the budget request for the parliament building's renovation, which initially sought 10 billion baht but only received 8 billion baht. Mr. Pichet emphasized the need for full transparency regarding the allocation, which primarily covers salaries and regular expenses, leaving limited funds for development.
Mr. Pichet elaborated on the need for improvements, highlighting issues such as the lack of a sound system in a large room on the B2 floor, which can accommodate 1,500 people. He stressed the importance of equipping the parliament to host large seminars without incurring additional costs. The inspection is intended to make the parliament more accessible to the public and foreign guests, showcasing the transparent procedures and innovative technologies developed by officials.
In response to inquiries about future expense reductions, Mr. Pichet clarified that the current focus is on completing the parliament building according to the master plan. He noted that while the structure is in place, essential details like permanent electrical wiring and kitchen facilities are still needed. The building's warranty covers certain aspects, such as water leaks and tree maintenance, until the end of the year.
Regarding the recreation room on the 5th floor, Mr. Pichet mentioned that it currently lacks equipment but is intended for use by the Parliament Club. He has appointed a club president to draft rules for its operation, aiming to provide a space for parliament personnel to exercise and relax.
