Bangkok: The Commissioner General of Police has confirmed the implementation of strict disciplinary and criminal punishment for police officers found guilty of misconduct. This announcement follows a private sector survey that placed the police among the top 10 agencies receiving the highest levels of bribes.
According to Thai News Agency, the National Police Chief has acknowledged the survey results, affirming that the police have been consistently enforcing disciplinary and criminal rules against officers who misbehave. Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, addressed the findings from three private sector organizations. The survey indicated that the police were among the top organizations involved in bribery, which the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police has been made aware of. The spokesperson mentioned that the survey was based on real-life experiences, emphasizing the need for the Royal Thai Police to consider this information seriously. The Commissioner General has previously directed all units to prevent and suppress corruption firmly, with decisive action against any officer found with clear evidence of wrongdoing.
In efforts to improve law enforcement, particularly in traffic-related matters, the Royal Thai Police is using technology to reduce discretionary decisions and increase transparency. Traffic officers are encouraged to wear body cameras to record duties, enabling verification if issues arise during their tasks.
