Police Officer Arrested in Connection with Chinese Nationals’ Abduction and Extortion

Kuala lumpur: Another police officer has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of five Chinese nationals, bringing the total number of apprehended suspects to seven.

According to Thai News Agency, the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation involving both police officers and civilians accused of abducting and extorting money from five Chinese nationals in Wang Mai Subdistrict, Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province on May 17th. The investigation has already led to the arrest of six police officers and one civilian, all facing serious charges related to corruption, unlawful detention, and deprivation of liberty.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, has been actively overseeing the investigation and has urged police officers to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the Royal Thai Police. He emphasized the importance of avoiding any disciplinary or criminal offenses and instructed commanders to closely supervise their subordinates.

The investigation has further uncovered the involvement of three more individuals in a transnational organized crime syndicate. These individuals include a Thai national, a Cambodian national, and a Chinese national, who are allegedly linked to illegal human trafficking activities. Legal action will be pursued against them, and the investigation will be expanded to include the five Chinese nationals who were initially abducted, to determine their possible involvement in the crime syndicate.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong also awarded the "Thumbs Up Spokesperson" award to two officers, Pol. Lt. Col. Wisitporn Jaikla and Pol. Lt. Col. Boonlert Polkaew, for their role in the arrests and their dedication to the investigation.
