Narathiwat:Police are urgently tracking down two masked assailants who shot and seriously injured a former village headman while he was performing religious duties at a mosque in Suai Padi district, Narathiwat province.
According to Thai News Agency, explosives disposal officers and related agencies inspected the scene where the two attackers, wearing balaclavas, ambushed Mr. Droning, 69, last night. The authorities are making urgent efforts to locate the perpetrators.
At the scene, investigators found two 9mm pistol shell casings and one AK-47 shell casing on the road beside the mosque. Mr. Dronning, who was previously honored with a Golden Pin award, has a history of being targeted by extremist groups, having been ambushed and shot twice before, and once had a bomb planted outside his house. Initial investigations suggest these attacks may be linked to the extremist group, raising suspicions that they could be informants for the authorities.
