Pollution Control Department and Environmental Crime Division Implement Five-Step Strategy Against Illegal Waste Dumping

Bangkok: The Pollution Control Department and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection have put into action five key measures to tackle the issue of illegal industrial waste dumping. This initiative marks a significant collaboration between the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRCD) to enhance law enforcement against such environmentally damaging activities.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Surin Vorakitthamrong, the Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, has tasked Dr. Yutthachai Sarathai, Director of the Pollution Inspection Division, with leading a team of officers. This team, along with representatives from the Legal Division, participated in a crucial meeting to foster cooperation with the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NRCSD). The meeting was led by Police Major General Anek Taosupap, Commander of the NRCSD, and attended by the commanders of NRCSD Divisions 1-6. The primary goal of the discussion was to enhance the prevention, suppression, and enforcement of laws against illegal dumping of industrial waste, which poses significant risks to the public and ecosystems.

The collaborative efforts have resulted in a structured framework consisting of five key steps: reporting incidents, requesting search warrants, pre-operation preparations, entering operational areas, and taking legal action. This approach aims to develop a system for quickly handling leads on illegal activities, integrate evidence to support legal actions, prepare strategic plans, and enforce laws effectively. The joint operations are expected to strengthen the mechanisms for preventing illegal pollution and expedite the prosecution process to deter future occurrences.

This integrated collaboration represents a critical advancement in pollution control measures nationwide, emphasizing the government's commitment to enforcing laws and safeguarding natural resources and public health.
