Houston: NASA will use Prada brand suits for its astronauts. Prada, the world-renowned Italian luxury fashion brand, unveiled a form-fitting underwear set for NASA astronauts to wear on their lunar missions, underscoring the brand's commitment to being the first major player from the luxury goods sector to enter the space industry.
According to Thai News Agency, the form-fitting suit was created in collaboration with Axiom Space, a Houston-based space infrastructure developer, and features integrated ventilation channels in the fabric. This new product marks another step for the luxury brand, following Prada's sensational venture into space fashion in 2024 with the unveiling of its external space suit, expected to be used in NASA's Artemis 4 program, which aims to send astronauts to the moon in 2028.
Prada's business move comes amidst a slump in the luxury goods industry. After two years of continuous contraction, the sector began showing signs of recovery until the outbreak of the Iran-Iran conflict in late February, which impacted travel and hampered luxury spending far beyond the Middle East.
In addition, other fashion and apparel companies have also jumped on this space trend. Under Armour has collaborated with Virgin Galactic, an aerospace company, to create clothing for space travel, while Columbia Sportswear has partnered with Intuitive Machines, a private space exploration company, on space textile technology.
