Bangkok: The Prime Minister presided over the royal cremation ceremony for Sergeant Major Satthawat, a soldier who died in a border clash between Thailand and Cambodia. He expressed his condolences to the family, embracing their daughter, and greeted villagers. Many offered encouragement regarding the resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, along with Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, arrived at Roi Et Airport to board a helicopter to Nong Phok School. They reached Wat Phrom Phitak Wanaram at 3:10 PM to lead the royal cremation ceremony for Sergeant Major Satthawat Sujarit at Village No. 9, Tambon Rob Mueang, Amphoe Nong Phok, Roi Et Province. They were accompanied by Mr. Sakda Wichiansilp, Deputy Minister of Interior, and General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army.
The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences and offered support to Sergeant Major Satthawat’s family, encouraging his two daughters to focus on their studies. He witnessed the ceremony of presenting the national flag, which draped the coffin, to the family. The Prime Minister also presented a military trophy, a certificate of merit, and financial assistance from the Royal Thai Army. He was visibly emotional before speaking to the family, urging them to use the aid for the children’s welfare. Before departing, he embraced Sergeant Major Satthawat’s daughters.
As he was leaving, attendees approached the Prime Minister for photographs, prompting him to greet the crowd. Some urged him to resolve the Thai-Cambodian border issue within his tenure. In response, the Prime Minister raised his fist as a symbol of determination and pointed to General Chaiyapruk, acknowledging him as a great commander.
