Shanghai: The Prime Minister opens the economic gateway from Thailand to Shanghai, expanding the market for Thai products. The Thai Prime Minister opened the door for the Thai economy to Shanghai, cooperating with AI to expand the market for Thai products in China's leading economic hub.
According to Thai News Agency, today at the Radisson Collection Hotel in Shanghai, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that Mr. Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart city development to create economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for the people of both countries.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Shanghai was chosen as the first city on his visit to China due to its significance as a global hub for economy, finance, trade, and innovation. He also highlighted the World AI Conference, which demonstrated China's technological prowess, and confirmed Thailand's commitment to collaborate with China on AI development under good governance to ensure benefits for the population and economy.
Further discussions included Shanghai's approach to urban development, focusing on technology research and improving citizens' quality of life, which has led it to become a world-class economic hub. The Prime Minister expressed Thailand's eagerness to learn from Shanghai's experience and apply it to the growth of its digital economy, smart cities, and future industries.
The Prime Minister also conveyed Thailand's openness to receiving quality investment, particularly in AI, digital, and innovation industries. Thailand aims to utilize its advantages in food and energy security, alongside its strategic location, to position itself as a base for investment and regional economic connectivity.
An important aspect of the discussions was the expansion of the market for Thai products in China. The government plans to support Thai private sector companies in participating in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) later this year to enhance business matching opportunities and boost Thai exports to the Chinese market.
Additionally, both parties agreed to foster cooperation in AI. With over 300,000 AI professionals in Shanghai and a robust research system, there is a significant opportunity for knowledge exchange, personnel development, and collaboration between businesses and research institutions in both countries.
Tourism and cultural cooperation were also on the agenda. Thai tourists currently rank as the fourth largest group of foreign visitors to Shanghai, while people from the Yangtze River basin in China continue to travel to Thailand. This cooperation is expected to generate income and stimulate both economies. The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Mayor of Shanghai to visit Thailand to further cooperation and advance projects towards tangible outcomes.
