Bangkok: The Prime Minister has mandated three parties to address issues stemming from the strict gun control policy that affects the training of shooting athletes. He also emphasized that the exam fraud case will be managed with "no favoritism or connections."
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul disclosed that he has issued a policy directive regarding the awarding of firearms to village headmen and sub-district chiefs. Given the current government's oversight on firearms, he has suggested a change in the award distribution format, which has been agreed upon by the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration.
The Shooting Association of Thailand has expressed concerns that tighter firearms controls are adversely affecting their training and competitive events. Currently, discussions are underway among the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the association itself. New firearms control legislation is anticipated. These discussions are aimed at ensuring that all parties are involved but must remain rooted in safety principles to prevent misuse of firearms.
Addressing complaints from police officers regarding job difficulties, Mr. Anutin stressed that it is the commanders' duty to develop effective strategies and procedures. He questioned the validity of the complaints and suggested that such issues should be discussed with superiors. He assured that solutions are available and would be tackled in executive meetings.
In response to allegations of corruption in the local government exam, which were highlighted by the STRONG Anti-Corruption Club of Thailand Facebook page, Mr. Anutin stated that reports from appointed officials and investigating agencies are being reviewed. Any detected wrongdoing will lead to legal proceedings.
The Prime Minister made it clear that legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty of a crime, with no exceptions or favoritism. He reiterated that there are no limits or ceilings to prosecution, countering claims that certain levels of authority are immune.
Additionally, Mr. Anutin confirmed his attendance at the funeral service for Mr. Krieng Kalptinant, a notable figure in the Pheu Thai Party. He acknowledged Mr. Krieng's kindness, influence, and generosity, expressing his regret for not visiting him during his illness, given his significant role in Ubon Ratchathani province.
