Prime Minister Paethongtarn and Royal Thai Navy Commander Collaborate on Maritime Security

Bangkok: Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra recently held discussions with Admiral Jirapol Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, focusing on enhancing maritime security to combat illegal activities such as fishing, drug smuggling, and trafficking in illegal goods and weapons. The discussions aim to address significant financial losses to the nation’s maritime interests.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of national maritime interests, equating them with national security. She invited Admiral Wongwit to report on the Maritime Interests Protection Center’s (MCO) missions and operations. The discussions highlighted the necessity of integrated efforts from various sectors to safeguard maritime activities valued at over 24 trillion baht annually. Despite this significant value, these activities suffer annual damages exceeding 1.48 trillion baht, accounting for 6.2% of the national maritime interests.

Prime Minister Paethongtarn expressed gratitude towards the Royal Thai Navy and the Marine Police for their efforts and urged continued dedication to ensuring the safety and benefit of the nation’s citizens.
