Thai Election Commission Celebrates Songkran with Traditional Water Pouring Ceremony

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) organized a water pouring ceremony to ask for blessings for Songkran. The Election Commission organized a Songkran event, allowing executives, civil servants, and employees to pour water over the heads and ask for blessings to preserve the culture and show unity in the organization.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission organized the Songkran Day activity in 2025 to continue the beautiful traditions of Thailand, show unity and loyalty to the organization. Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, along with Mr. Santhat Siri-anantpaiboon, Mr. Lertwiroj Kowattana, Mr. Thitichet Nuchnat, Mr. Chai Nakornchai, and Mr. Sittichot Intrawiset, Election Commissioners, and Mr. Sa-wang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, executives, civil servants, and staff of the Election Commission office joined the activity.

Mr. Itthiporn presided over the ceremony, leading the pouring of water on the Buddha statue at the EC office before allowing the Election Commissioners to pour water over their heads. After that, the executives, civil servants, and staff poured water over the heads of the Election Commissioners and the EC Secretary-General to ask for blessings on the Thai New Year. The staff wore floral shirts and joined the activity together.

Mr. Saeng highlighted that Songkran Day is a tradition filled with an atmosphere of gratitude and respect, using water as a medium to create good relationships. The event serves both to preserve Thailand’s cultural heritage and as an opportunity for the EC Office to engage in auspicious activities. Participants received blessings from the EC Chairman and poured water on the Buddha image for good fortune, boosting morale and encouragement in performing duties.

Mr. Itthiporn expressed that the Songkran festival was filled with happiness and goodwill. He emphasized the significance of Songkran as a symbol of love, unity, and gratitude, noting its importance as a time to start anew and improve relationships. He conveyed wishes for happiness and prosperity to the executives, civil servants, and staff of the Election Commission office and their families, while also wishing safe travels to those journeying during the festival.
