Bangkok: The Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand's economy, pledging to be the "wind beneath their wings" to boost their competitiveness and foster sustainable growth for entrepreneurs.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, presided over the 18th National Outstanding SME Awards and the 4th SME Provincial Champion Awards ceremony at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok. The event, attended by cabinet ministers, executives from the Office of the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP), SME entrepreneurs, and business sector representatives, began with a moment of silence in memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha.
Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, reported that the Prime Minister highlighted SMEs as a driving force in the country's economy, acknowledging their potential for growth in the rapidly changing economic landscape. He stressed the importance of adaptability for business survival and growth, noting that the government is committed to supporting Thai SMEs through continuous development, increased productivity, and integration into domestic and international markets.
The Prime Minister called for collaboration between the government, private sector, financial institutions, educational institutions, and partner networks to create a support system providing entrepreneurs with access to knowledge, technology, capital, and market opportunities. This foundation is seen as essential for the stable and sustainable growth of Thai SMEs.
The awards ceremony, which has been a staple for 20 years, aims to develop Thai entrepreneurs by not only recognizing successful businesses but also raising management standards and promoting promising enterprises. The Prime Minister congratulated the award recipients, commending their resilience and commitment to quality management and social responsibility.
He urged the award-winning entrepreneurs to leverage their success to foster further growth, share knowledge, and build networks that contribute to a strong business ecosystem.
