Prime Minister Srisaket Sihasak Outlines Strategic Policy Directives to European Diplomats

Bangkok: Prime Minister Srisaket Sihasak delivered comprehensive policy directives to ambassadors and consuls general from 24 European nations, underscoring a four-dimensional strategy to navigate the complexities of a multipolar world.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew, featured participation from ambassadors, consuls general, and representatives of 24 embassies. The primary focus was on four key diplomatic principles aimed at enhancing Thailand's international relations.

The first principle, the Diplomacy of Strategy, encourages diplomats to adopt a strategic mindset and boost their work efficiency. The second principle, the Diplomacy of Speed, stresses the importance of prompt actions, particularly regarding the Thai-Cambodian issue. The third principle, Diplomacy of Coherence, highlights the need for unity and teamwork in handling multidimensional issues, both within and outside the ministry. The final principle, Diplomacy of Communication, calls for clear and simple communication to gauge public sentiment and articulate the objectives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Sihasak expressed concerns over Cambodia's actions against Thailand on international platforms like New York, Geneva, and UNESCO, despite pursuing dialogue with Thailand. He noted the necessity for both countries to coexist and improve relations, despite domestic sentiments.

Addressing regional matters, Mr. Sihasak highlighted Thailand's proactive stance on the Myanmar issue within ASEAN. He emphasized Thailand's balanced approach in international politics, not aligning strictly with the US or China, but exploring relations with the EU and India as strategic alternatives. Discussions with Japan, South Korea, and Australia also aim to promote a multipolar regional order.

Mr. Sihasak stressed the importance of ASEAN Centrality amidst internal disagreements within ASEAN, advocating for a focus on regional rather than individual interests. He called for a reassessment of Thailand's position and future direction, leveraging political stability for policy continuity and economic restructuring.

Ambassadors were tasked with enhancing Thailand's credibility and exploring opportunities beyond markets, including ASEAN and EU relations. The discussion extended to tangible outcomes in strengthening diplomatic ties.

In a subsequent meeting, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other key ministers planned to discuss government policy implementation within the European context.
