Prime Minister’s Decisive Action Strengthens Thai-Cambodian Border Operations

Bangkok: Academics have highlighted the Prime Minister’s swift and decisive approval for military operations along the Thai-Cambodian border, emphasizing the importance of unity between government and security forces in addressing the ongoing conflict.

According to Thai News Agency, Assistant Professor Wanwichit Boonproong, a political science lecturer at Rangsit University, praised the Prime Minister’s clear and commendable decision to authorize the military to make full decisions and take action along the border. This move is seen not as political detachment or an attempt to exploit nationalist sentiment, but as a demonstration of leadership through timely decision-making and instilling confidence in the military. By granting the military authority, the government is implicitly sharing responsibility and risks, aligning both entities on the same side of the conflict.

Scholars have pointed out that the unity between the government and the military is a critical factor, as they now operate as a cohesive force. This collaboration facilitates more coordinated troop deployment, operational direction, and responses compared to previous efforts.

In response to reports of a Cambodian political operation involving leaked videos and photos suggesting a close relationship between the Thai Prime Minister and the governor of Pailin province, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wanwichit described it as a typical blackmail tactic by Cambodian leaders aimed at undermining confidence within Thailand. However, this tactic did not sway the mature Thai society, which observed the actions of the Thai leader and the military’s support. The attempt to disrupt unity in Thailand proved ineffective, as the Prime Minister’s reliance on strategic action, rather than personal relationships, led to swift and efficient operations.
