Bangkok: The Department of Science Service (DSS) organized the academic conference '1st QI Network Symposium 2026' (QI-NetS 2026) to integrate research power and lab networks. On September 16, 2026, the Department of Science Service, through the Science Service Network Development Institute, hosted the event at the Sapphire Suite, 7th floor, Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam Hotel. Dr. Pojaman Thachin, Deputy Director-General and Acting Director-General of the Department of Science Service, presided over the opening ceremony, and Mr. Dej Buakli, Director of the Science Service Network Development Institute, was in attendance.
According to Thai News Agency, the conference was held under the research program 'Study and Development of Mechanisms to Strengthen Laboratory Science Networks' for the fiscal year 2026, which received seven research grants. The goal was to study, analyze, and develop mechanisms to advance Thailand's laboratory science network in a connected and systematic manner, effectively supporting the country's quality infrastructure. A special lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Patarapong Intrakamnoed from The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan, on 'Adaptation of S and T Organizations Abroad and Lessons for the Faculty of Science.' He also joined a discussion and provided feedback on research covering issues such as policy recommendations, laboratory quality system development, product accreditation, technology transfer, credibility in measurement results, and laboratory capability development.
Mr. Dej Buakli emphasized that the meeting marks a significant milestone in exchanging and disseminating research findings to the public, creating a platform for knowledge transfer, experience sharing, and feedback among scientists, researchers, and practitioners. This initiative aims to strengthen and systematize collaboration within the laboratory network.
Dr. Pojaman Thachin stated that the country's quality infrastructure is a crucial foundation for building confidence in standards and enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial and service sectors. Developing a robust, reliable, and internationally linked metrology, standards, testing, and certification system is a key mechanism for elevating Thailand's potential. Therefore, QI-NetS 2026 is seen not only as a platform for presenting research but as a starting point for connecting "research, knowledge, and networks" to develop practical mechanisms. This will collaboratively strengthen and modernize Thailand's quality infrastructure, preparing it to adapt to future economic and industrial changes.
