Rakchanok Urges Increased Public Relations for Social Security Board Election Awareness

Bangkok: "Rakchanok" has called for intensified public relations efforts to boost awareness of the upcoming Social Security Board election, following a significant drop in registration numbers below the expected target.

According to Thai News Agency, Members of Parliament from the People's Party held a press conference to emphasize the need for comprehensive publicity by the Social Security Office and large employers. The goal is to ensure a fair and transparent election process for the Social Security Board, which plays a crucial role in managing the Social Security Fund and overseeing the benefits and welfare of workers.

During a press conference held today, Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, a Member of Parliament from the People's Party, highlighted that only one week remains until the Social Security Board election, scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026. She outlined the essential functions of the Social Security Board, including recommending social security policies, planning the management and development of benefits, and setting criteria for various benefits such as illness, maternity, and unemployment.

Voter registration, which took place from June 1 to July 15, 2026, is a prerequisite for both employers and employees to participate in the election. However, of the 10 million insured persons, only 750,000 have registered to vote. Similarly, out of 500,000 employers, only 6,000 have registered. Ms. Rakchanok urged the Social Security Office and employers to enhance their outreach efforts, suggesting the creation of a registration schedule across all 77 provinces to raise awareness. She also proposed making election day a public holiday to facilitate simultaneous voting for employees.
