Bangkok: “Rome” says “Anutin” is putting Thailand at a disadvantage regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue, urging him to provide the facts to the public directly and for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to accelerate proactive communication.
According to Thai News Agency, former MP Rangsiman Rome commented on the Thai-Cambodian borer situation, specifically addressing US President Donald Trump’s social media post stating that the Thai soldiers’ stepping on a landmine was an accident. Rome expressed his condolences for the losses and suffering of displaced citizens. As a former politician and chairman of the National Security Committee, he views the situation with concern, noting that the clashes have escalated, including the use of drones. He stated that the security forces had assessed the potential escalation, though the extent of their readiness before the clashes began was unclear.
Rome emphasized the importance of protecting Thailand’s territorial integrity and addressing state-sponsored crime aimed
at destabilization, alongside military efforts. He criticized Mr. Anutin’s public statements, suggesting they have put Thailand at a strategic disadvantage. Rome advised the government to resolve the border issue by encircling Cambodia internationally rather than escalating the conflict, which could complicate crisis management.
Rome further asserted that Mr. Anutin’s approach prevents Thailand from utilizing its strategic advantages, potentially leading to unnecessary conflict and global encirclement of Cambodia. He expressed concern that continued mismanagement could undermine Thailand’s position.
Amidst rumors of a ceasefire communication from the Malaysian Prime Minister, Rome called for the government to provide clear information and ensure Thailand maintains strong international alliances while isolating Cambodia. He tasked the acting Foreign Minister with clarifying Thailand’s position at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting, ensuring Cambodia understands Thailand is not the aggressor.
