Chonburi: “Arm” Thanyathon Sukcharoen secured a silver medal in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games held at the Chonburi Provincial Sports School gymnasium.

According to Thai News Agency, the weightlifting competition at the 33rd SEA Games kicked off with the women’s 48 kg category on December 13, 2025. Thailand was represented by Thanyathorn Sukcharoen, who had previously won silver and bronze medals at the World Championships in October. The event featured six competitors, with medals awarded based on total weight. Thanyathorn successfully achieved a lift of 83 kg in the snatch and 100 kg in the clean and jerk, culminating in a total weight of 183 kg, which earned her the silver medal.

The gold medal was claimed by Lulak Diana Tri Wijayana of Indonesia, who lifted a total of 184 kg, while the bronze went to Vietnam’s Thi Thu Trang Nguyen, who lifted a total of 181 kg.

Following the competition, an emotional Thanyathorn revealed that she had been battling a knee injury since the World Championships, which had hindered her training. She had only resumed training two weeks before the SEA Games. Despite her disappointment at missing the gold, she intends to prioritize her recovery and return to full fitness for future competitions.
