Royal Irrigation Department Monitors Water Flow in Chao Phraya and Pa Sak Rivers

Bangkok:The Royal Irrigation Department is actively managing water flow in the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers, ensuring that water releases downstream from the dams do not impact Bangkok. The department is also closely monitoring for heavy rainfall and accumulated rainwater.

According to Thai News Agency, the department is directing water flow within the irrigation system to control volume and distribute drainage efficiently. Water releases from the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak Chonlasit dams are currently at manageable levels and do not threaten Bangkok's flood barriers. Efforts are underway to accelerate canal drainage and prepare for upcoming rainfalls, urging residents of Bangkok and surrounding areas to remain vigilant.

In upper areas, the semi-permanent pumping station at Khlong Rangsit is reducing peak water levels before they reach Bangkok. Central management involves Khlong Saen Saep, Khlong Prawet, and related pumping stations. In lower areas, rapid drainage is facilitated through coastal canal pumping stations like Chonlahan Phichit, Suvarnabhumi, and the Khlong Lat Pho sluice gate. These measures consider tidal patterns to optimize drainage, with particular attention given to heavy rainfall and accumulated rainwater in low-lying and drainage-limited areas.

Weather forecasts indicate a potential increase in rainfall from October 5th to 7th, with a decrease expected on October 8th and 9th. Another rise in rainfall is predicted from October 11th to 14th in the central region. The department is leveraging decreased upstream water levels to enhance storage capacity and prepare drainage systems. Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts and official warnings, as the department adjusts water management strategies to mitigate impact on urban areas.
