Samui: The Royal Thai Air Force has provided an explanation regarding the recent accident involving a C-130 transport aircraft at Samui Airport. Air Chief Marshal Prapass Sonjai, acting as the Air Force spokesman, disclosed details of the incident that took place on Friday, May 2, 2025. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the aircraft from Squadron 601, Wing 6, was executing a training flight mission on a route from Don Mueang to Trang, then to Samui, and back to Don Mueang when the accident occurred.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident happened during routine ground engine start-up procedures. The pilot noticed a malfunction with the wheel brake system, which led to a loss of control over the aircraft. As a result, the plane rolled forward from its parking position, colliding with a light pole before coming to a halt in the bushes just in front of the parking area.
Emergency protocols were promptly enacted by the pilots, ensuring the safe evacuation of all 62 individuals on board through the aircraft's rear. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The initial assessment revealed damage, particularly to the front left wing due to the collision with an electric pole, and further damage was noted where the front of the aircraft impacted a parking sign and the surrounding bushes.
The Air Force emphasizes its commitment to flight safety and the well-being of its personnel and the general public. They reassured that the incident did not compromise public safety or the structural integrity of the airport. To address the situation, the Air Force Safety Office (AFSA) has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the incident and to implement preventive measures against future occurrences.
