Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has strongly denied allegations made by Cambodian media, which accuse Thailand of staging bombings to harm its own troops. These accusations are seen as attempts by Cambodia to divert attention from its own violations of the Ottawa Convention.
According to Thai News Agency, the Cambodian army has acknowledged that the media in Cambodia is using outdated methods to fabricate these claims against Thailand. The accusations include assertions based on satellite photographs from Malaysia, suggesting that Thailand ordered landmines for military purposes.
Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari has addressed these claims, stating that the reports are entirely false and represent a continuation of deceptive tactics. He pointed out that the images used in the reports were manipulated to mislead both domestic and international audiences about Thailand’s actions.
The Royal Thai Army further emphasized that such tactics are intended to obscure Cambodia’s continuous violations of international agreements, specifically the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of landmines. The Army reaffirmed that the PMN-2 mines found along the border are not part of the Thai military’s arsenal and have never been procured for use by Thailand. Evidence indicates that these are newly planted mines by Cambodia, aimed at threatening and harming Thai forces.
