Bangkok: The Second Army Region has criticized Cambodia for its repeated provocative actions, highlighting its awareness of international propaganda plans.
According to Thai News Agency, at 2:40 PM on September 27, 2015, the 2nd Army Area Operations Center provided a summary of the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. The report indicated that earlier that day, Cambodia attempted to escalate tensions in the Chong An Ma area, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. This involved the use of military weapons fired into Thai territory and an exchange of small arms fire, which ultimately remained confined to the area.
Later in the day, the Thai side was informed of the Cambodian International Observation Mission’s planned entry into the Chong An Ma area. The Second Army Region assessed this as a tactic by Cambodia to provoke and create conditions coinciding with the mission’s entry. The Thai side noted that Cambodia had previously used similar tactics and had pre-set up cameras at the southern operations base to record footage. This move was interpreted as an attempt to internationally portray Thailand as the aggressor in the clash.
The Thai military emphasized its commitment to maintaining calm and cautious control of the situation, aiming to avoid actions that could be used in Cambodian propaganda. Despite provocations, Thailand is prepared to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens. The Second Army Region also deployed a civil affairs team to assist residents along the border, reinforcing the army’s dedication to the public’s well-being.
