Bangkok: In a significant move, the Senate, under the leadership of General Kriangkrai Srirak, First Vice President of the Senate, has established three committees to investigate the backgrounds and ethics of nominees for crucial positions, namely the Election Commissioners, Constitutional Court judges, and the Attorney General.
According to Thai News Agency, the Senate meeting saw the creation of these committees to ensure thorough background checks of the nominees. The committee for the Election Commissioners will review 15 nominees, including Mr. Kamol Rodkhlai and Police Colonel Kob Atchanakitti, among others. This step aims to scrutinize the credentials and past conduct of those aspiring to hold these influential roles.
The committee dedicated to examining nominees for the Constitutional Court judgeship will also evaluate a separate list of 15 individuals. This list includes figures such as Mr. Chatuporn Riangngen and Miss Chanyanan Triyatkanchai. Each nominee will undergo a detailed review process to ensure they meet the ethical and professional standards required for the position.
Similarly, the committee for the Attorney General nominees comprises 15 candidates, including Police Colonel Kob Atchanakitti and Ms. Khemmarat Suramethamanaphon. The investigation by these committees is set to conclude within 60 days from their establishment, ensuring a timely and comprehensive vetting process.
After the investigations, the Senate will consider and approve nominees for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in a confidential meeting. This thorough examination process reflects the Senate’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability in these key governmental roles.
