Senate’s Two-Year Achievements Praised Amidst Criticism

Bangkok: Summarizing the Senate's achievements over the past two years, they affirm that their work has been for the people, dismissing criticism regarding the collusion case and stating their readiness to listen to all voices. Mr. Mongkol Surasatcha, President of the Senate, and General Kriengkrai Srirak, First Vice President of the Senate, jointly presented the Senate's accomplishments, emphasizing their mission for the people and the impact of their legislative work.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Mongkol highlighted the Senate's debate of over 57 laws and 443 questions, asserting his commitment to neutrality and order during meetings. He addressed allegations of conflicts of interest, stating that he maintains impartiality and allows all senators to express opinions within set regulations. Efforts to transform Parliament into a "green" body and promote democratic understanding among youth were also emphasized.

Mr. Mongkol detailed the Senate's legislative work, including the consideration of 47 bills, approval of three emergency decrees, and 54 motions on public interest issues. He affirmed that appointments to constitutional positions were conducted with transparency and ethical considerations. He likened differing opinions within the Senate to a variety of flowers benefiting the people when combined.

General Kriengkrai discussed the Senate Members' Public Outreach Project, highlighting fieldwork to address public concerns. Over 1,370 complaints were received, predominantly about water resources, land issues, and agriculture. He stressed cooperation from various sectors to resolve these issues for national progress. The Senate is portrayed as proactive, ensuring public grievances are addressed systematically.

Mr. Mongkol addressed perceptions of being a "blue" senator, asserting senators prioritize national interests according to the constitution. He dismissed allegations of collusion, emphasizing non-interference and adherence to duty and law. On criticism regarding Senate collusion, he expressed readiness to listen and improve but remained undeterred by negative feedback.

General Kriengkrai affirmed senators' good spirits amidst the collusion case, viewing gossip as unavoidable. He emphasized fulfilling constitutional duties and openness to feedback. He also addressed a controversy regarding a cheat sheet during the national Senate election, apologizing for a lack of interviews and maintaining neutrality.
