Bangkok: Somsak Prisananantakul, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has voiced concerns over Thaksin Shinawatra’s recent comments about reclaiming the Interior Ministry for the Pheu Thai Party. Somsak, who is also the father of Bhumjaithai Party MPs Paradorn and Krawee Prisananantakul, took to Facebook to question Thaksin’s authority in the matter, asking, “Who is he? Is this okay?”
According to Thai News Agency, Somsak’s remarks were in response to Thaksin’s interview regarding a potential cabinet reshuffle. Thaksin, the former Prime Minister, suggested that the Ministry of Interior should be returned to the Pheu Thai Party. However, Somsak highlighted the Political Party Act, specifically Section 28 and Section 29, which prohibit non-members from influencing or controlling a political party, either directly or indirectly.
Somsak’s public statement underscores the ongoing political tensions and legal implications surrounding party influence and control in the Thai political landscape. His reference to the Political Party Act raises questions about the legality of Thaksin’s involvement in the party’s affairs, as he is not a current member.
