Kalasin: Three serious charges have been filed against a subordinate who fatally shot a military recruitment officer in his office. He has been taken to the Khon Kaen military court. Meanwhile, the officer's family has invited his spirit back to Sakon Nakhon for religious ceremonies.
According to Thai News Agency, a military recruitment officer in Kalasin province was fatally shot by a subordinate who was stressed about being transferred from Mueang Kalasin district to Kamalasai district, and also angry about being investigated by a disciplinary committee. The subordinate decided to try and resolve the conflict, but it escalated, resulting in a violent confrontation. The subordinate fired 13 shots, killing the officer on the spot. The assailant calmly waited to surrender, showing no signs of stress.
This incident occurred at 9:20 AM. The duty investigator was notified by the radio center that a person had been shot and killed in the conscription office on the 4th floor of the Kalasin Provincial Hall. The gunman was Lieutenant Chinakorn, 59, a military clerk at the conscription office. The deceased was Colonel Koravikanon, also 59, the conscription officer. Following the incident, Lieutenant Chinakorn stated that the motive stemmed from a work-related dispute. He was about to be investigated by the provincial conscription officer for irregularities; in April, 32 people in Mueang District failed to report for military service, but only 7 names were submitted in the report. Furthermore, he had been ordered to transfer to Kamalasai District. Unhappy with this, Lieutenant Chinakorn went to meet with his superior, Colonel Koravikanon, to inquire about the order. During the conversation, a heated argument ensued for less than a minute. In a fit of rage, Lieutenant Chinakorn fired 13 shots at his superior, killi ng him instantly.
The family invited the spirit of the military recruitment officer back to Sakon Nakhon.
This morning, the deceased's wife and daughter invited monks to perform a ceremony to guide Colonel Koravikanon's spirit from his office back to his hometown in Sakon Nakhon Province for religious ceremonies. The cremation is scheduled for Saturday. Meanwhile, a representative from the Kalasin Provincial Justice Office advised them on how to file documents to claim the 300,000 baht compensation for his death.
Regarding the legal case, Sub-Lieutenant Chinkorn faces three serious charges: intentional homicide, illegal possession of a firearm, and firing a gun in a public place. The suspect is currently being held in custody at the Khon Kaen Military Court.
