Bangkok: Surawong Thienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has urged the media to cease speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle. He emphasized that such rumors disrupt governmental operations and highlighted his readiness to accommodate any changes deemed necessary by the Prime Minister.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong addressed the media, stating that there are currently no plans for a cabinet reshuffle. He insisted that any adjustments should be left to the Prime Minister’s discretion and expressed concerns that ongoing speculation hampers the execution of governmental duties. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities and assured that he is prepared for any modifications if and when they arise.
In response to inquiries about his position as Minister of Tourism, Mr. Surawong humorously noted his lack of awareness regarding potential penalties and urged against premature judgments. He affirmed his dedication to his role, emphasizing his openness to feedback and suggestions.
While addressing rumors about potential changes within other ministries, such as the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Surawong refrained from providing specific comments, suggesting it is best left to the Prime Minister’s jurisdiction.
The Minister also detailed budget plans for the northeastern provinces of Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Sakon Nakhon, emphasizing their significance as both primary and secondary tourism destinations. The focus is on enhancing tourist infrastructure and promoting integrated tourism strategies with the help of the Young Entrepreneurs Group (YEC). The initiative aims to attract European and American tourists, particularly those interested in spiritual, religious, and cultural tourism, with the broader goal of evenly distributing tourism-related income across various provinces.
