Thai Army Intensifies Surveillance at Chong Sangam Border Amidst Security Concerns

Sisaket: The Thai Army has confirmed its vigilant monitoring of the Chong Sangam border crossing, with a focus on movements from Cambodia. The Royal Thai Army has announced its readiness to maintain security and closely observe the Thai-Cambodian border in Sisaket province. Despite the current calmness, the Army acknowledges the potential threats from the area, which has previously been used as a military support base by opposing forces.

According to Thai News Agency, Major General Winthai Suwari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, highlighted the ongoing assessment and surveillance efforts in the Chong Sangam area and along the Thai-Cambodian border. The Army has emphasized its full preparedness, with intelligence agencies and operational units actively monitoring the border situation.

The Army spokesperson noted that during past conflicts, the Thai military had targeted areas across the Chong Sangam border due to their use as support bases for military operations, which resulted in casualties and damage. This has led to the destruction of certain structures in the region.

In response to allegations regarding the use of illicit funds for military enhancements in Cambodia, intelligence reports from the Thai side consider all possibilities, though no definitive evidence has been found. The Army assures that any movement affecting border security will be closely watched.

Despite some movements on the Cambodian side, the current threat assessment does not indicate immediate concerns. The Army continues to focus on ensuring security and safeguarding the lives and properties of people in the border areas, in line with the policies set by the Commander-in-Chief of the Army.
