Bangkok: The Thai national badminton team is gearing up to compete at the 20th Asian Games, set to take place from September 19th to October 4th, 2026, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Air Chief Marshal Monthol Satchukorn, President of the Badminton Association of Thailand, emphasized the team's readiness, highlighting that the players' fitness levels are not a concern due to their consistent participation in professional tournaments throughout the year. However, the main focus remains on managing the physical demands from their packed competitive schedules, necessitating individual assessments to ensure optimal performance.
According to Thai News Agency, "View" Kulavut Vitidsarn and "May" Ratchanok Intanon are set to lead the Thai badminton team at the Games. In the men's singles category, Vitidsarn is anticipated to perform at his peak, while Intanon will join forces with "Mew" Pornpawee Chochuwong in the women's singles. Chochuwong, who recently secured a bronze medal at the 2026 World Championships, is in top form and injury-free, boosting the team's confidence.
In the mixed doubles category, medal prospects are promising as Dechapol Puavaranukroh, recovering from a knee injury sustained during the 2026 World Championships, is expected to be fit to pair with Supisara Piewsampran. In women's doubles, the pairs of Benyapha Iamsaad and Nanthakarn Iamsaad, along with Hathaitip Mijad and Napaporn Tungkasthan, show great potential. In men's doubles, Peerachai Sukphan and Parkpol Teeraratkul are also poised to make a significant impact.
