According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Acting Prime Minister, addressed whether the lawsuits against Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, and Mr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, would affect diplomacy. He said that within the country, lawsuits have been filed as reported in the news. Regarding foreign affairs, it is a sensitive matter, and he has instructed the legal departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Council, and the Ministry of Defense to discuss the matter.
Regarding Thai businesspeople or politicians traveling to Cambodia, what security measures will be in place if Thailand files legal action? Mr. Bhumtham stated that this matter is unrelated, as domestic business operations are a matter of course. If they don't violate the law, nothing can be done. The country has rules and regulations. He personally doesn't know what investments Samdech Hun Sen and Mr. Hun Manet have made in Thailand. He will need to check with the relevant agencies first. He also doesn't know if the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will need to seize assets, as he doesn't yet know what the problem is. The DSI will seize assets in any case, and it must be done according to due process, as there are laws and all parties follow the system. If Thailand deems any involvement in causing damage to the country or the lives of citizens, it will enter the justice system. If domestic law allows it, it will be pursued. International matters are not limited to legal matters; there are many sensi tive issues. If it can be done, it will be sued.
Mr. Phumtham also stated that filing criminal charges against Samdech Hun Sen and Mr. Hun Manet does not require notification to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). This process must be handled according to the legal process, which already has channels and allows for prosecution within the scope of the law. He added that the police must first conduct an investigation, and if anything can be done, they will act according to the agreement.
