Bangkok: The Thai Hockey Association, in collaboration with PTT, is taking significant steps to enhance the national women's floorball team by conducting a selection camp in Sweden. This initiative is part of a broader effort to identify and nurture talent both domestically and internationally.
According to Thai News Agency, "Big Nat," Kong-ekchai Phakdi Siriwat, President of the Hockey Association of Thailand, has dispatched coaches and staff to Falkenberg, Sweden, to oversee the selection camp from August 7-9, 2026. This initiative, named "TOGETHER FOR THAILAND," aims to expand the talent pool for the women's national team. The project aligns with the association's objective of proactive athlete selection and is financially backed by PTT Public Company Limited.
Mr. Watcharapol Onsuk, coach of the Thai national floorball team, provided insights into the 'TOGETHER FOR THAILAND' project, which follows the directives of the association's leadership. He emphasized that the camp offers an opportunity for Thai children residing overseas to have their skills assessed, with the potential of joining the national team. The selection process attracted 22 athletes, reflecting strong support from their families and clubs, eager to contribute to Thailand's sporting prestige.
The team established clear criteria for positions and qualifications to ensure the selection process aligned with the team's needs. The primary objective was to discover new talents who could be groomed into key players for the Thai national team, especially in areas requiring reinforcement and long-term development. The camp was deemed successful, with athletes demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment. Most participants, aged between 15 and 18, have experience at the club level, indicating a promising foundation for further development.
Mr. Watcharaphol Onsuk noted that all participating athletes hold Thai passports, allowing them to seamlessly enter the selection process under the association's guidelines. He expressed gratitude to the Hockey Association of Thailand for organizing this pivotal event. The camp not only unveiled new potential but also showcased the athletes' dedication to representing Thailand. The coach believes that selecting athletes abroad will continue to connect global talents with the aim of advancing Thai floorball on an international scale.
