Bangkok: The Thai Social Security Consortium (TSSC) gathered at Government House to protest the perceived inequities in the CARE social security pension formula, threatening further demonstrations on August 4th. According to Thai News Agency, the protestors, including representatives from the Thai Labor Union (TLU), submitted a petition to the Prime Minister, urging a revision of the pension system to ensure fair compensation. The TLU emphasized their readiness to escalate labor protests on August 4th if their concerns are not addressed.
The Thai Labor Solidarity Federation (TLSF), led by President Mr. Sawit Kaewwan, joined the protest with approximately 35 members. They presented a letter to the Prime Minister opposing the "CARE formula" used in calculating social security pensions. The federation contended that the formula adversely affects the benefits of insured individuals and called for a reassessment to guarantee fairness.
The Minister of Labour, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, accepted the petition from the demonstrators. The event was also attended by Ms. Theerarat Samrejvanich, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister; Mr. Nopporn Boonkaew, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office; Captain Saroj Khomkai, Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare; Mr. Sompas Nilphan, Advisor to the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office; and Mr. Pansak Charoen, Director of the Public Service Center, Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office.
The petition aims to challenge the current CARE formula for pension calculations and encourages the government to consider revising the criteria to provide equitable benefits for all insured parties. The protestors announced plans to unite with other labor networks for another demonstration on August 4, 2026, outside the Civil Service Commission office if their demands for a review of the pension calculation method are not met.
