Thai Military Ensures Control Over Strategic Prasat Khana Site Amid Border Tensions

Bangkok: The Army spokesperson has reassured the public that Thai troops maintain complete control over the strategic Prasat Khana site, emphasizing tight security in the area to prevent further Cambodian encroachment. The Army Commander-in-Chief stressed the need for vigilance in all situations, particularly in light of past encroachments by Cambodian forces. According to Thai News Agency, Major General Winthai Suvari, spokesman for the Royal Thai Army, visited Prasat Khana to encourage soldiers stationed there and to reaffirm that the troops are diligently protecting national sovereignty. Suvari emphasized the site's strategic importance due to its high ground position, which has previously been a target for Cambodian military bases. Currently, he assured that 90% of such areas are under Thai control, providing reassurance to the public. In response to Cambodia's previous construction of a staircase at the Prasat Khana temple, Thai soldiers have dismantled it. The spokesperson highlighted the challenges p osed by the heavy workload in the border area, which has hindered constant monitoring. As a result, increased vigilance is deemed necessary to prevent further incursions. The Army Commander outlined three key missions: maintaining constant surveillance and preparedness, enhancing fortifications and improving patrol routes, and conducting mine clearance, all with safety as a priority. Regarding the government's policy on the Thai-Cambodian border situation, the Army spokesperson stated that the military continues its dual roles of operational and diplomatic functions, adhering to internationally accepted practices. During conflicts, military action is prioritized, followed by diplomatic measures that align with societal norms.
