According to Thai News Agency, Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppadol Kannika, a former member of the National Police Policy Committee and an expert on police system development, has outlined a comprehensive strategy devised by the Royal Thai Police to aid citizens in southern Thailand following recent floods. The meeting, held at the Royal Thai Police Operations Center, was chaired by Police General Kittirat Phanphet and Deputy National Police Chief Police General Samran Nuanma. It resulted in the division of police operations into five key work groups designed to ensure cohesive and effective assistance across the affected regions.
The first group focuses on reinvigorating the police force to empower community support. Despite their own homes being affected, police officers are prioritizing assistance to the public. This initiative underscores the importance of leadership that emphasizes empathy and solidarity within the ranks to foster community trust.
The second group addresses the anticipated rise in crime in the aftermath of natural disasters. Officers are tasked with investigating cases related to property damage and theft, emphasizing a commitment to public safety despite personal hardships faced by the officers themselves.
The third group deals with forensic science and mortuary examinations, employing the “Tsunami Model” and “Student Bus Model” for standardized and dignified handling of deceased individuals. This approach involves collaboration with forensic experts, religious leaders, and legal authorities to honor the deceased appropriately.
The fourth initiative involves the management of submerged vehicles and urban restoration. Police are tasked with ensuring the proper recovery and maintenance of vehicles, reopening roads swiftly, and mitigating economic and safety impacts on affected families.
The final group focuses on social assistance, managing donations and coordinating aid distribution. Police officers are actively involved in collecting, sorting, and delivering essential supplies to those in need, often under challenging conditions. This effort highlights the dedication of the police to serve beyond their traditional roles, embodying the spirit of “Thais helping Thais.”
