Bangkok: Another Thai soldier was injured, losing his left ankle after stepping on a landmine in Nong Chan village. The incident occurred during a technical survey operation in the Ban Nong Chan area, part of a confirmed danger zone in the Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province.
According to Thai News Agency, the Eastern Command's Unit 1 has been actively involved in clearing the danger zone, which spans an area of 80,800 square meters. So far, 62,000 square meters have been cleared, leaving 18,800 square meters, or 23.27%, still considered hazardous. The unfortunate incident took place as Sergeant Major Udomsak Nukman from the 30th Mechanized Infantry Battalion was assessing an old PMN minefield to understand its boundaries.
While inspecting the area at around 11:00 AM, Sergeant Major Nukman inadvertently stepped on a PMN mine. The explosion resulted in the loss of his left ankle and inflicted a wound on his left arm. Despite the severe injuries, he remained conscious and received immediate first aid on-site.
Following the accident, operations in the area were halted, and Sergeant Major Nukman was swiftly transported to Aranyaprathet Hospital for urgent medical care. His condition remains stable, and he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
