Bangkok: The Thai women's volleyball team claimed a decisive 3-0 victory over Bulgaria, marking their first win in the 2026 Women's Volleyball Nations League.
According to Thai News Agency, the match, held at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mak, witnessed the Thai team, ranked 24th globally, bounce back after a narrow 2-3 loss to Ukraine in their opening game. Facing off against Bulgaria, the world number 20, Thai head coach Kiattipong Ratchatagriengkrai fielded a strong starting lineup, featuring captain Pornpun Guedparach, along with Wimonrat Thanaphan, Atcharaporn Kongyot, Thaddao Nuekjeng, Pimpichaya Kokram, Sasipaporn Chantavisut, and libero Jidapa Nahuanong. Bulgaria's team was led by Mikaela Stojanova, their prominent hitter.
The opening set saw Bulgaria initially take the lead, but the Thai team quickly closed the gap, eventually winning the set 25-22. The momentum continued into the second set, where Thailand employed various attacking strategies to secure a 25-20 win. In the final set, the Thai team maintained their dominance, finishing with a 25-17 victory. This win earned Thailand an additional 3 points, raising their total to 6 points and advancing them to 14th place in the standings.
Looking ahead, Thailand is set to play against Canada on June 20th and the Netherlands on June 21st, with both matches scheduled for 8:30 PM and broadcast live on MONOMAX.
