Bangkok: Thailand and the Philippines have embarked on a significant collaboration to exchange knowledge on innovative social service delivery. According to Thai News Agency, the Thai Association of Medical Social Workers, in partnership with international counterparts from the Philippines, has formalized this collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing ceremony, held at the Royal River Hotel in Bangkok, was led by Yaowares Khammanat, President of the Thai Association of Medical Social Workers, with Professor Rapeeporn Khamhom as an advisor and committee members in attendance. The MOU seeks to elevate the capabilities of social worker networks and professional organizations to international standards.
Coordinated by Mr. Chokchai Wichianchaiya, Director-General of the Department of Elderly Affairs, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the agreement aims to establish a strategic framework focusing on academic knowledge exchange and innovative social services. The primary objective is to enhance the standards of the medical social work profession in response to global changes, particularly in improving healthcare access for vulnerable groups.
Ms. Yaowares Khammanat highlighted that the MOU represents a landmark step in fortifying the network of social workers between Thailand and the Philippines. The collaboration is committed to applying internationally recognized knowledge to develop welfare systems and care for vulnerable populations in Thailand. The cooperation encompasses three main areas:
1. Professional Development: Enhancing the skills and knowledge of medical social workers to meet international challenges.
2. Reducing Health Disparities: Developing collaborative approaches and innovative social services to improve healthcare access for vulnerable groups through telemedicine.
3. Enhancing Cooperation Networks: Strengthening professional networks at the ASEAN level to facilitate best practice exchanges and create sustainable social welfare systems.
This partnership not only underscores the leadership role of the Thai Medical Social Workers Association in the region but also marks a critical step in advancing Thai social welfare policies for the benefit of the public and vulnerable communities.
