Chanthaburi: The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces inspected the concrete fence along the Thai-Cambodian border in Chanthaburi province. The first phase is expected to be completed this July. According to Thai News Agency, the Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces visited the border area of Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, to inspect the progress of the construction of the Thai-Cambodian border fence. The pilot project in Chanthaburi, specifically at border markers 52-54, is nearly 80% complete.
General Ukrit Boontanon, Chief of Defence Forces and Director of the Border Security Integration Center, traveled to the construction site of the Thai-Cambodian border security fence at Ban Laem, Thep Nimit Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province. He inspected the operations and received a progress briefing on the project, a pilot project funded by the Thai Armed Forces with over 69 million baht from the Hathaitip Fund. The project includes the construction of surveillance roads, border fences, individual bunkers, and bomb shelters in the border area.
Construction of the border fence along boundary markers 52-54 in Ban Laem, Thep Nimit Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, spanning 1.3 kilometers, is currently nearly 80% complete and is expected to be finished by the end of July 2026. Following this, construction will proceed on the second phase, extending approximately 7.07 kilometers from boundary markers 54-59, for a total length of 8.38 kilometers. The fence will be constructed of reinforced concrete with concertina wire, reaching a height of 3.35 meters. The design ensures strength and durability, capable of withstanding impact and gunfire, making it suitable for the terrain and fulfilling security objectives.
This project, involving the construction of patrol roads, border fences, individual bunkers, and bomb shelters, is supported by the Hathaitip Fund to strengthen national security, protect the lives and property of people along the border, and boost the morale of personnel serving to safeguard national sovereignty and interests.
